My go-to cooking oil is olive oil. The smoke point is low, so you may substitute avocado oil if you want.
In terms of seasoning, my go-to ingredients are Kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, smoky paprika, and cayenne pepper. I prefer garlic powder over fresh minced garlic in this recipe since it more evenly coats the shrimp and it doesn’t burn as readily.
For this dish, I like to use huge raw shrimp that have already been peeled and deveined. For the grill, I like larger ones rather than the little ones.
You may also use extra-large ones, although they may require more time on the grill.

Olive oil, lemon juice, Kosher salt, chilli powder, and cayenne pepper are whisked together to begin. There will be a pleasant heat to the sauce.

Close to three minutes each side over medium heat will get you perfectly opaque and cooked all the way through.
Proven Strategies
Since shrimp are so little and fragile, your first responsibility as a chef is to prevent overcooking them. Obviously, you want them thoroughly cooked. However, as they lose their translucency, pull them off the grill.
Grilling food without charring it, or at least with as little charring as possible, is a best practise. Shrimp may easily burn if the stove is not watched. You may also reduce the grill temperature to medium and cook them for a longer period of time.
Techniques for Grilled Shrimp Recipes
Grilling shrimp is a simple and quick method of preparing this delectable seafood. Heating the grill is the only time-consuming step. In fact, the instructions are so basic that they hardly qualify as a recipe at all, and should be treated instead as an idea. Get it right the first time and commit it to memory! - Turn on a grill’s heat to around medium-high.
- Take the shrimp from freezer (if frozen).
- Spread the shrimp out in a bowl, then season with olive oil and kosher salt.
- Cook on the grill for 1–2 minutes each side, or until the meat is no longer pink inside.
- Take it off the grill and sprinkle some freshly squeezed lemon juice over top.
- A further suggestion: make use of our own Teriyaki sauce by brushing it on.
Should shrimp be peeled before being grilled?
Grilled shrimp may be enjoyed either with or without the shell.
Some people will only eat shrimp that has been kept in its shell because they claim that it retains a lot more moisture that way. Yet shrimp that has been skinned is as delicious. For aesthetic reasons, shrimp with their tails on are the ones we like to utilise. Basically, you want to avoid overcooking it. Tough and dry shrimp result from even a minute of overcooking.
Do shrimp skewers need to be used while grilling them?
You are free to do so if you so want! If you want to make turning your shrimp on the grill simpler, you may thread them onto skewers beforehand. However, Alex and I have noticed that it spins easily on skewers, which makes it difficult to control when grilling. Putting it on skewers is a time-consuming process, and wooden skewers need to be soaked to prevent them from catching fire.

Exactly how long should shrimp be left on the grill for?
This dish has an insanely short cooking time. Grilling shrimp over medium-high direct heat just takes 3–5 minutes (375 to 400 degrees).
How long you cook them for is determined by many factors, including the size of the shrimp, the specific cooking temperature, and whether or not the shells are left on.We used 26-30 shrimp per pound for this dish.
We’ve tried it with both shelled and unshelled shrimp, and it works well either way.
Instructions for thawing frozen shrimp
When should frozen shrimp be thawed? Depending on when you begin, you’ll have many choices. Here is what you should do:
- If you want to thaw frozen shrimp the night before, all you have to do is put them in the fridge.
- On the day before, defrost the shrimp in a big dish of ice water.
- To prevent the shrimp from freezing in solid masses, give the dish a good stir every 5 minutes.
- Depending on the shrimp size , defrosting time should be about 15-20 minutes.
Varieties of Grilled Shrimp Dishes

But how do you include it into a main course? A few suggestions for serving shrimp that has been grilled:
- instead of refined grains
- Place the grilled shrimp immediately on a bed of nutritious grains, such pesto quinoa, farro, turmeric rice, or even creamy polenta.
